kidsmin – Kids Ministry Resources http://kidsministryresource.com Sat, 19 Jan 2019 06:36:07 +0000 en-US hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=6.5.3 How to Use Magic Tricks to Teach Church Kids http://kidsministryresource.com/index.php/2019/01/19/how-to-use-magic-tricks-to-teach-church-kids/ Sat, 19 Jan 2019 03:27:54 +0000 http://kidsministryresource.com/?p=137 Using optical illusions or so called “magic tricks” can be an extremely effective way to reinforce your Sunday school lesson. The magic will keep the children focused and listening intently. The teacher will be able to drive the point of the lesson home and make it memorable. This article will give you some basic principles to using “magic” in your classroom.

Pick your trick.
Select an illusion that can be related to the lesson you are teaching. For instance when something disappears you can make a point that Jesus wipes your sins away and are gone forever; when something appears, talk about how Jesus is coming back and no one knows when. There are several different kind of tricks out there; visit my links below to check out all there is to offer … think about how you can use a trick to teach a lesson. It will take a little thought on your part but it will pay-off when the students have a lesson stuck in their mind.

Practice the trick. The old saying “practice makes perfect” is as true today as when it was first said. Nothing can turn your audience off as quick as a poorly performed trick- one that doesn’t work or gives away the trick. The students will find the trick boring or corny. So practice it along with what you will be saying as you perform, you will be glad you did.

Perform the trick. Performing your trick takes plenty of practice as stated above. The performance should be well thought out. Your teaching points should be timed just right throughout. Your performance should be exciting and interactive with your audience; talk to them and ask questions if possible. Make sure you are performing far enough away that the secret to your trick is not revealed; some tricks are made for close-up and some for stage distance, be sure you are aware of this when you perform.

Cheap Vacation Bible School Ideas for VBS on a Small Budget http://kidsministryresource.com/index.php/2019/01/19/cheap-vacation-bible-school-ideas-for-vbs-on-a-small-budget/ Sat, 19 Jan 2019 02:58:33 +0000 http://kidsministryresource.com/?p=128 Vacation Bible School is a church-wide outreach program aimed at the community. You need several committed volunteers to make a great VBS that kids will look forward to annually. Unless your church produces its own Vacation Bible School Material you will need to search for a program that fits your targeted age group.

Avoid buying VBS Starter Kits because you can easily spend $150 -$200 and half the material is not useful to your particular church. You can make your budget go much further buying only the material you will use for you VBS program.

After selecting a VBS program the first thing you should is order one of each item you will use so that the volunteers can become familiar with it. Next buy or create your promotional material and work on getting kids registered for VBS. Registration is necessary so that the proper amount of student material can be ordered. Set a date that registration closes that is well in advance of the actual vacation Bible school date so that ordered materials will arrive on time.

Save money on crafts by coming up with your own to go with the theme. You can ask the people of your church to save, and bring in items. For example: baby formula cans make great planters, pen holders, or coin banks. Do you have someone in your church who is great with creating crafts? Ask for her help!

Even on a minimum budget plan on spending $10 per student, and up to $30 if you have a more flexible budget. Some churches choose to eat the cost of all materials while others may elect to charge upon registration either partial or full cost. You must decide what will work best for your church and your community.

Here is a list of some recommended vacation Bible school curriculum.

How to Promote a Sunday School Program http://kidsministryresource.com/index.php/2019/01/19/how-to-promote-a-sunday-school-program/ Sat, 19 Jan 2019 02:18:20 +0000 http://kidsministryresource.com/?p=125 Good promotion of Sunday School classes or Junior Church is essential to maintaining its growth. The goal of promotion is to inform and excite. Keeping current and prospective students aware of events and activities, if done properly, can build tremendous excitement in your children’s ministry. Keep in mind that no amount of promotion will help if the children’s ministry is dull and boring. The absolute best promotional ad you have is a fun and exciting ministry that the kids anticipate coming to; they will spread the word to their friends. Note: I will continue to add How To’ s on children’s ministry; check my resources and articles frequently.

    1. Step 1
The simplest form of promotion begins in the church. If your church has a bulletin, use inserts to notify parents of up-coming lesson series, activities and events. Informed parents are more likely to make sure their kids are in class if they are aware of what is being taught. It assures them that the time is being used well for the benefit of their children. All children’s ministers would like to have the full support of the parents; informing bulletin inserts will help.
    2. Step 2
Another in church promotion you can use is a short power point presentation. One that worked well for me included pictures of the students in class, smiling and being actively involved. It was set to the song “Friends” by Michael W. Smith. After every couple of student pictures I included a slide with a verse on friendship or children. The last slide Stated “Kidz J.A.M., Where Friends become Friends Forever.” then asked “Are Your Children Missing Out?”. Again, if you are not familiar with making power point presentations, ask around your church.
    3. Step 3
Send out postcards! Nothing excites a child more then receiving mail. Send postcards for any reason you can find. Birthdays, Missing You, Get well, Hope to See You Soon, are just some of the cards you can find at your local Christian bookstore or online in my resource links below. Be sure to include the next big event date on each postcard.
    4. Step 4
      Banners and fliers.
An eye catching banner or flier will grab the attention of children and adults alike. Use banners to get recognition of your ministry name. I use Kidz J.A.M. in big colorful letters. Use the fliers to further promote what you’ve put on the large banner. Be specific and creative. If you don’t know how to use computer software to create banners and fliers; ask around your church. There are always people with knowledge ready to help, if you only ask for it. Your church secretary may be able to assist you in this area as well.
Fliers can be put up in many places. Local restaurants and stores usually have bulletin boards designated for community events. Your students can hand out fliers too. If you choose to hand out fliers in a public area, be sure to get the permission of the owner or manager.

    5. Step 5
Use community events to get the word out. A good event to have is a Fall Festival held on Halloween night. Always set up a registration table at the front of any event and give motivation to register such as a prize drawling from all completed registration cards. This will help you create a mailing list. You can use these events to hand out fliers too. Have plenty of banners and pictures of your class in view. You can use short skits by people or puppets to promote your children’s ministry. The possibilities are endless for ways to promote through events. A well put together program will give a great first impression of what your church has to offer children.
    6. Step 6
Create a mailing list. Always get addresses! 1st time visitors are a prime source; have parents fill out registration cards for their children. Get addresses at all your community events. Never pass up the opportunity to get a new address. Ask your church members to give addresses of their neighbors that have children. Once you have a mailing list, look for reasons to send out fliers and postcards. Remember, kids love to receive mail. Don’t forget your current students.
    7. Step 7
Use the media. Radio, Tv, News Papers, Community Calendars, they all offer some amount of exposure. This step can demand a large budget but the return could be very high as well. If you do not have the budget there are some things you can still do. Most newspapers will accept articles that are well written with a black and white photo. Write your article about an event that the church has done for the children and how it had a positive affect on the children and the community. If you get published it is more likely the newspaper will publish other articles of yours in the future. If you are not a writer, ask your church family for help, more then likely there is a writer among you.
Community Calendars are also free. Some run on local cable community access channels. Most Christian radio stations will announce your event for free. Because they are non profit, they can not sell commercial time. Check the stations website for their announcement board and post your event or call the station to give them the information they will need.
