Teach kids to Love God and Love Others I John 4

Discussion

Ask the children what they think the word love means and how they show it to others.

1st John 4: 7, 8, 12,13a

Dear Friends let us continue to love each other, for love comes from God.  Anyone who loves is born of God.

But anyone that does not love does not know God- for God is Love.

This verse says God is love.  What does that mean?

No one has ever seen God.  But if we love each other, God lives in us and his love is shown through us. God has given us his spirit.

1st John 3:18

Let us stop just saying we love each other; let us really show it by our actions.

LOVE IS SHOWN THROUGH ACTIONS

God IS Love.  He has given us (Christians) His Spirit.

1st Corinthians 13:4-8a

Love is patient, love is kind, it does not envy, it does not boast, It is not proud.  It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.  Love does not delight in evil but rejoices in the truth.  It always protects, always trust, always hopes, and always perseveres.  Love never fails

If God is love and these actions define love; we must do our best to follow these actions so that people will see God in us.

1st John 3:16

This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down His life for us.

John 3:16

For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believes in him will not perish but have everlasting life.

DO YOU KNOW GOD’S LOVE?

God wants you to be saved from the punishment for your sins (Hell).

He wants you to live forever with him in Heaven.

How can you be saved?

Romans 3:23

All Have sinned and come short of God’s glory.

(Admit you are a sinner, ask forgiveness)

Romans 10:9-10

If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart God raised         him from the dead, you will be saved.

(Confess you believe Jesus is the Son of God; that he died and rose again.)

Here is a simple prayer you can say to ask Jesus to save you.

Dear God,

I know that I am a sinner because I have done some wrong things. Please forgive me.
I believe Jesus was Your Son; He died on the Cross to save me and You raised Him from the dead three days later to live with You.  Please become the God of my life; lead me to make good choices and tell others about Jesus.
In Jesus name I ask.  Amen
