Game: Helping Children Find God
Sunday school teachers are always looking for new game ideas to use in children’s church. “Find God” is a new game created to help children understand that God is always there. This game will be fun and exciting for the kids as they search for God. This article will provide Children’s Ministers and teachers the basic instructions on how to play the game and give some ideas on the lessons that can be taught along with it.
For the purpose of this game God is represented by a softball or other small object.
Find God is a game in which the Sunday school class will search for a hidden object (God).
Choose an area to play the game. You will need a space that has many hiding places (for instance: I use all the classes in the Sunday school department).
Show the object to the students and announce to them they will be playing a very exciting game;
they will get to Find God. Make sure that the children are not in the area that “God” will be hidden.
Have an assistant hide the object.
Get the kids ready to play the game. When you say “Go” they will search for the object.
Let the children know that the one that finds God will get a special prize and will also get to hide God for the next game. You can play this game over as many times as you choose.
When the game has ended, reassemble the children for a lesson.
Tell the children that the real God isn’t hiding.
Some lesson topics to use with this game include:
Salvation (knowing and having a relationship with God)
Prayer (communicate with God)
Creation (seeing God’s work)
